KaMin Earns Sustainable Forestry Initiative Certification

KaMin is proud to announce its achieved certification under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) 2022 Forest Management Standard on June 15, 2026, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to sustainable forestry, environmental stewardship, and responsible land management.

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative is one of North America's leading organizations promoting responsible forest management through high standards for environmental stewardship. SFI certification recognizes organizations that balance environmental protection, social responsibility, and economic sustainability while ensuring forests remain healthy and productive for future generations. Earning this certification demonstrates that KaMin manages its forest resources according to internationally recognized best practices.

Earning SFI certification is a significant accomplishment that required KaMin to undergo a comprehensive independent third-party audit. Throughout the process, the company successfully satisfied the requirements with 17 Forest Management Objectives that set the benchmark for responsible and sustainable forestry. These objectives cover key areas such as:

  • Climate-smart forestry
  • Forest health and productivity
  • Protection and maintenance of water resources
  • Conservation of biological diversity
  • Forestry research, science, and technology
  • Training and education
  • Community involvement
  • Continual improvement

Meeting these standards required developing and implementing detailed management procedures, documenting forestry operations, protecting sensitive habitats and water resources, establishing long-term forest management plans, supporting research and education, and demonstrating an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.

The certification encompasses more than 13,000 acres of KaMin-owned timberland across seven Georgia counties, reflecting our long-term commitment to protecting and responsibly managing these valuable natural resources.

As part of this achievement, KaMin is now a certified member of the Georgia SFI State Implementation Committee (GA SIC). This membership connects us with a network of forestry and conservation leaders across the state who work together to advance sustainable forestry through collaboration, education, and responsible land stewardship. By sharing knowledge and promoting best practices, we are helping support the long-term health of Georgia's forests and the communities that rely on them.

This recognition is more than a certification, it reflects KaMin's values. Responsible stewardship of our land is an essential part of who we are, and SFI certification reinforces our commitment to making thoughtful, science-based decisions that benefit our forests, wildlife, water resources, surrounding communities, and future generations.

This project was led by Katie Hitt, NR Coordinator Intern, working under Mason Graham, Senior Manager of Natural Resources, Exploration and Land Management, and in collaboration with Forest Resource Consultants (FRC). Together, they guided KaMin through the certification process by creating standardized management procedures, organizing required documents, preparing for the certification audit, and ensuring our forestry program met the requirements of the SFI® 2022 Forest Management Standard.

This milestone demonstrates KaMin's dedication to sustainable forestry practices and reinforces the company's commitment to protecting natural resources for future generations.
