Dry Products
KaMin’s standard kaolin products supplied in dry form have an indefinite shelf life when warehoused and stored properly. However, packaging may degrade over time, so for safety reasons, it is recommended that product be used within 12 months of receipt to avoid any issues with the integrity of the packaging.
Surface-treated kaolin products have a maximum shelf life of 60 months. As indicated above, KaMin recommends use within 12 months of receipt to ensure packaging integrity.
Best Practices for Storage and Warehousing of Dry Products
Storage considerations for KaMin dry packaged products include:
• Packages should remain unopened and protected from external contamination.
• The product should be protected from becoming damp or wet during storage. This can cause the formation of hard lumps in the bags, making the product more difficult to unload and disperse.
• Stacking of packaged products may lead to product compaction over extended periods of time. For example, the bottom bags on a pallet of 25kg bags may be more difficult to disperse/use after more than a year standing. KaMin suggests that palletized and bulk, bagged products be stacked no more than two high.
Best Practices for Slurry Product
KaMin’s kaolin products supplied in slurry form have a maximum shelf life of 45 days when stored in their original, unopened shipping containers. The reasons for this shelf-life limitation include:
• The potential for settling of the product over time, and
• The potential for external bacterial contamination of the product.
